Farwanderer is concerned with border states and transitional moments, and how these in-between regions seem more and more to make up the core of our experience of the real. The story is told in a series of letters home, missives from a traveler gone astray. Our traveler requests picture postcards from home in order to construct an imaginary zone that is both home and away, without being fully either. Past and present, near and far, depth and surface merge into a single field from which our traveling narrator pieces together a new patchwork world. When this world coheres, he is able to name it Home, and the polarity of existence is flipped: traveler becomes homebody, the familiar becomes foreign.

The film was shot on Super 8 in Gansu Province, China and Berlin, Germany
