Accomplices is a set of five short performance works and a six-panel photo collage printed on postcards and available at each of the five sites of Fujiko Nakaya’s fog sculptures, presented by the Emerald Necklace Conservancy during the exhibition Fog x FLO: Fujiko Nakaya on the Emerald Necklace in Boston and Brookline in 2018.
The front of each card shows a selection of small objects collected while walking between the sites of all five fog sculptures. From tiny natural treasures to cast-off refuse, the photographed objects together suggest the value in pausing to refocus attention on the incidental, the background, the overlooked. The back of each card presents a short text. Like a musical score, it can guide the creation of a personal performance by each reader, directly on the site and in collaboration with the fog sculpture as it appears. The performances are intended to be both private and public, physical and imaginal, and to remind us that we are all performers and co-authors of our art works, situations and environments.
